  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • green food coloring
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar on medium speed until soft peaks form.
  3. Gradually add granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, and continue beating until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy.
  4. Add vanilla and peppermint extracts, mixing gently.
  5. Divide the meringue into separate bowls and color with green food coloring.
  6. Pipe small tree shapes onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for about 90 minutes or until the meringues are dry and crisp.
  8. Allow to cool completely before adding chocolate chips as ornaments.
