Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 4 slices turkey bacon
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the turkey bacon until crisp. Remove and chop.
  2. In the same skillet, add olive oil and sauté onions, garlic, carrot, and celery until softened.
  3. Add ground turkey and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in chopped turkey bacon, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, wine, and seasonings.
  5. Simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve over pasta of choice.

Notes

  • For deeper flavor, stir in a splash of milk towards the end of cooking.
  • Try using a mix of ground meats for added richness.
